Steven Bartlett
The Manchester-bedroom podcaster who hit 'publish' on a $100 microphone, and still can't quite believe where it took him β€οΈππΎ
Steven is a builder with a big heart. He dropped out, launched Social Chain at 21, took it public by 27, and then 'started a podcast and it got out of hand.' That podcast became The Diary of a CEO and the creator company Steven.com. What stands out isn't the scale. It's how often he returns to his roots: a mum who raised four kids without being able to read or write, the Dragons' Den episodes they watched together when he was 12, and that $100 microphone. He's endlessly curious about the hidden sides of people, openly emotional, and grateful to a fault. Note: he is publicly engaged, following a Christmas Day proposal in Marrakech.
He frames his biggest wins as shared with his mother. He asked his fiancΓ©e's parents for permission before proposing, so family is central to how he loves.
- IGβthis was a dream of mine AND my mumsβ
- IGβI asked her mother and father if I could ask her to marry meβ
He built a career on long-form talk and worries publicly about a 'connection crisis'. Someone distracted or surface-level would leave him cold.
- inβSo how good are we ACTUALLY at talking to each other anymore?β
- IGβtold me I could ask her anythingβ¦ and that's what I didβ
He runs many ventures across London, Manchester, New York and LA. Even his 34th birthday cake appeared mid-flight next to open laptops.
- inβLondon, Manchester, New York and LAβ
- IGβI AM 34 π π βοΈ (photo: cake on a private jet beside laptops and a colleague working)β

- IGβhumans were designed to create, this is why we get depressed when all we do is consumeβ
- inβwe got annoyed that all the podcast hosting platforms were inadequate... So myself and Rox built a better oneβ
He doesn't hide feelings. He calls moments surreal, admits nerves, and says pitches move him, so he needs a partner who welcomes that openness.
- inβI felt SO emotional after this pitchβ
- IGβTo say I was nervous is an understatementβ¦ i could feel my heart racing in my chestβ
He has millions of followers across platforms and roles on Dragons' Den and Shark Tank. A grounded partner who is comfortable with visibility, without chasing it, would help him thrive.

- Base
- United Kingdom (LinkedIn), with Steven.com based in Los Angeles
- Pace
- Relentless. He runs multiple companies at once and works even through birthdays.
- Social
- His world is full of guests, founders and creators. He values old friendships and deep one-on-ones.
- Travel
- Constant and transatlantic across London, Manchester, New York and LA, with trips to places like Marrakech.
- Health
- Strong professional interest in wellness and performance through investments in Huel, ZOE, Whoop, Ketone-IQ and Neko Health.
- Work / life
- Work and life are deeply blended. His passion is his job, so quality time matters more than quantity.
- Talks like
- He is warm, casual and emotionally expressive. He often writes in lowercase, uses exclamation marks and signs off with β€οΈππΎ. He tells big stories small, with understated humour. In conversation he's a meticulous listener who prepares and asks the deep question, and he prefers candour to polish.
- Shows care by
- He goes big and thinks it through. He'll fly in secretly, ask your parents' blessing and improvise a shelter if a storm rolls in. He also shows care through long-term backing: years of loyalty, being someone's first investor, and credit shared publicly with the people who supported him.
- Deeply devoted to his mum and shares his success with her
- Asked his fiancΓ©e's parents before proposing, showing respect for family
- Openly admits nerves and past misunderstandings, and grows out loud
- Keeps friendships going for years
- Thanks his team constantly
- Rolls up his sleeves for causes instead of just writing cheques
- His time is extraordinarily scarce, and even celebrations happen on a jet beside laptops
- Living a very public life means privacy takes real effort
- Running many ventures at once can leave little mental space for downtime
- His intense drive and results focus could make slow, unstructured days feel foreign to him
- Frequent transatlantic travel makes routine hard
- Disrespect toward family, or looking down on humble beginnings
- Credential snobbery or dismissing unconventional paths
- Chronic passivity, or consuming without ever creating
- Shallow conversation and phone-glued half-presence
- Indiscretion about private life
Context: Steven is publicly engaged, so this describes the kind of person who fits him rather than an open search. He fits best with someone self-directed who builds something of their own and holds their own in a deep conversation. They'd be family-minded and warm, and secure enough in themselves to handle his pace and public profile gracefully.
- A long, unhurried dinner where phones go away and you trade the stories of what shaped you, with his kind of questions going both ways
- Volunteering together for a morning at a community project, then coffee afterwards to talk about what you saw
- A wellness-and-ideas day with a matcha, a long walk, and a talk or studio visit about how creative work gets made
- Ask about the day he bought the $100 microphone and recorded alone in his Manchester bedroom. What made him hit publish?
- Mention Dragons' Den and ask what it was like watching it with his mum at 12 and now sitting in the chair
- Ask what he learned from finally sitting down with Rick Rubin after 8 years of waiting
- Ask about his friend who cuts hair and sparked the AI debate. Who are the everyday people who keep him grounded?
