Pau Gasol
Two-time NBA champion turned children's-health crusader: a golf-loving, bilingual Barcelona boy who still writes a newsletter called #TiempoMuerto and ends it with '¡Espero vuestros comentarios!'
Pau is a Sant Boi kid who did a year of medical school, then spent two decades at the top of basketball, and has since poured that energy into the Gasol Foundation, athlete advocacy as Chair of the IOC Athletes' Commission, and sports investing. What stands out is how little he leads with trophies. His About section opens with 'I love sports,' and his posts are full of thank-yous, credit to the unseen work behind results, and loud support for women's basketball. In the middle of a packed Germany-to-Spain calendar he still reminds people to move, rest and be present with the people they love. He is also someone who marks a late brother-in-spirit's birthday every year with open, unguarded tenderness.
He publicly defends these habits even when his schedule is full. A partner who helps guard slow, grounded time will feel like a teammate, not a competing demand.
- IG“busy weeks are also a good reminder to make time for the basics: moving, resting, and being present with the people we love”
He splits his weeks between countries and roles. He needs someone who can enjoy the travel, or hold the fort, without resentment, while understanding that Spain is home.
- IG“Berlin🇩🇪, time back in Spain🏠”
The Gasol Foundation and children's health are central to who he is, not a side project. A partner who is curious about the cause, not just tolerant of it, will connect with him deeply.
- IG“some meaningful work with the @gasolfoundation that I'm particularly proud of”
- in“I am concerned about child welfare. That is why I lead the fight against childhood obesity”
He reads HBS articles for fun, writes a newsletter on UN reports, and explicitly asks for replies. He wants a partner who brings ideas and opinions to the table.
- in“En la última edición de mi newsletter #TiempoMuerto… ¡Espero vuestros comentarios!”
- in“I found this Harvard Business School article on how elite coaches make decisions under pressure particularly interesting”
He honours people who shaped him with 'unconditional and eternal love' and grieves in public. He will want someone who values long bonds and isn't uneasy with sincere feeling.
- IG“As a teammate, as an opponent at times and, more importantly, as a brother, always uncondicional and eternal love. Happy birthday hermano, miss you.”
- IG“08/24 ♾️🐍”
- GolfHis self-declared passion. He plays in an annual charity tournament and follows the Ryder Cup closely, and he takes his missed putts with good humour.
- in“You may know I'm deeply passionate about golf”
- Writing a newsletterHe writes #TiempoMuerto / #Timeout, a basketball pun, where he digs into reports like the UN SOFI 2026 and invites responses.
- Watching live basketball as a fanHe spent days in Berlin at the Women's World Cup, soaking it up from the stands as 'all of us basketball fans.'
- IG“Very special days that all of us basketball fans will remember for a long time… Danke Berlin! ❤️”
- Podcast-style conversationsHe sits down for long-form talks with fellow athletes, such as his conversation with Sue Bird.
- in“there's no better way to start than with a conversation with Sue Bird”
- IG“New episode with @paugasol is out now 🙌”
- Staying activeMovement is a non-negotiable daily basic for him, not a performance goal.
- in“Mantenerse activo, descansar bien, alimentarse de forma saludable”
- Children's health, nutrition and screen timeHe approaches it with research, citing data such as '7 de cada 10' kids exceeding recommended screen time.
- Women's sportHe champions it, invests in it through Bay FC, and shows up in person for it.
- IG“It truly feels like we are at the beginning of a new era for women's sports”
- IG“Bay FC investor Pau Gasol stopped by to catch up and spend some time with the team”
- Leadership and decision-making under pressureHe is fascinated by how habits and preparation shape big moments.
- in“in moments of maximum pressure, decisions rarely depend on luck. They are the result of the habits you have built”
- Athletes' rightsHe has advocated for athletes through the NBPA, ADESP and now the IOC.
- in“I am passionate about athletes. That's why I defend their rights”
- Sports business and investingHe runs Gasol16 Ventures, advises The Consello Group, and studied at Harvard Business School.
- in“Founder and President @ Gasol16 Ventures (Jul 2020 – Present)”
- in“The Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports @ Harvard Business School”
- Medicine and scienceHe did a first year of medical school before basketball took over, and the health thread runs through everything since.
- in“Licenciatura en Medicina (primer curso) @ Universitat de Barcelona (1999 – 2000)”

- in“Anyone can achieve success with talent, discipline, intelligence and responsibility.”

- Loyalty and rootsHe played 20 years for Spain, closed his playing career at FC Barcelona, and based his foundation in hometown Sant Boi.
- in“Professional Basketball Player @ Federación Española de Baloncesto (2001 – Aug 2021)”
- in“Co-Founder and President @ Gasol Foundation (2013 – Present), Sant Boi de Llobregat”

- IG“Grateful for the opportunity to keep sharing what I've learned”
- Lifting others upHe is a mentor and encourager, whether for Spain's women's team or future generations.
- IG“Sois mejor equipo y podéis ganarle a cualquiera”
- Authenticity over exposureHe picks projects he actually believes in.
- IG“contributing to projects I genuinely believe in”
